Did some more investigation of the 01CL600 and why it started showing faults 
for the new right cam position sensor I just put in and the 2 upstream O2 
lambda sensors on right side zylinders 1-6. These are before the cattle attic 
conversers. I don’t think the zylinders are actually firing since these 
components aren’t reporting. This fault is recent, all appeared to be working 
when I drove it the other day. Unclear what’s going on.  I’m thinking some sort 
of electrical issue but couldn’t see anything. Their wires seem to go directly 
to the ECU.  There might be some sort of test procedure for them in the DAS so 
I need to hook that up and look that up.  Bah. 

I think I determined the oil cooler is in fact leaking as is common on these 
engines. Bah. Huge job. $$$$. Bah. 

Max provided me an OVP relay for the 95E320 which one day refused to start. I 
swapped it in this afternoon and the car fired right up. YAY!  Call that a 
success. I took out the battery to do the job (there is a bolt holding it up to 
the ECU housing that is hard to reach) then the tray as it was full of schmutz 
in there. There was enough crud to grow spuds 🥔 down in there. No rust though. 
Not bad for a 27yo car. 

The plastic elbow fitting on top of the radiator is leaking where it goes into 
the radiator, there is a metal clip that holds it in. I’m thinking I should pry 
that off, see if there is an o-ring or something in there, or just slather it 
with JBW and see if that seals it up. 

I think it needs a head gasket too, common problem on these engines it seems. 
Bah. 

I have to order rear break pats for the 05E320 wagon and the 05ML500. And a new 
intake manifold for the 12GL450. I watched a vid today on replacing it, doesn’t 
look like too bad a job, just fiddly. Maybe 3hr work. Cheep plastic chit in the 
manifold commonly breaks. 

The sound system in the GL is really good. I bought a $16 Bluetooth dongle to 
plug into the MMI port in the glovebox (this is a weird system that is also 
used in BMW Audi and other marques) that my phone can talk to as AUX. The head 
unit actually talks via BT to my phone but only for calls. Won’t do music 
though for some unknown reason but phone will connect to both at the same time 
it seems. So now the phone will do both and the music podcasts etc sound really 
good but if a call comes in I can talk through the system too. The nav system 
mostly works given the vintage, or my phone will talk through it if I want the 
directions from thh by e phone nav apps. Roads don’t actually change that much 
so good enough. I kinda like it though it’s a bit weird. 

I’m going to get the 99E320 ready to sell. The battery was drained so it is 
charging. It’s been sitting awhile. Nice car though. 

Fun times with the vast fleet.
