Dan,
The shop manager said the tires were wearing in a way that indicated it
needed shocks?  Does that make sense to you?  I should probably get a second
opinion on that too!
A few weeks ago I drove the car and it was making a humming noise in the
rear which was diagnosed by one mechanic as a bad wheel bearing.  I took the
car to a second mechanic who checked the car and said the wheel bearings were
fine but it needed new tires which would fix the problem.  The second mechanic
had the car on a lift and showed me if you run your hands around the tire it
has high spots which cause the noise.
The car needed new tires so I had them installed today at Sams Club and the
noise disappeared!!
I am sure the front rims do need replacing because there was a very show
leak from one of the tires that was coming from the bead.  My daughter hit
every pothole in NYC !  I had it remounted and it is fine for now.
  Thanks for the quick reply.
Bob

I would have questions as to how they determined that your rear shocks were
bad. Shocks are rarely replaced on MBs, they can often go for 200k and still
work properly.

If you want to be exact, check the part numbers on the front wheels and do an
eBay search for them. Or, see if you can find a reputable wheel repair shop in
your area. There's one in Tampa that can fix bent rims, weld, etc., etc., and
guarantee their work as new. Last time I used them it was around $200/wheel
which included refinishing. Anything you find used will likely need
refinishing, and may not be true, either.

*ADDED QUESTIONS*

Hi All,
I had Continental Extreme Contact tires installed at Sam's Club a few minutes
ago.  They tested the sensors and they were fine but........ suggested I get
two new front rims.  New York City potholes took a toll on them and are
slightly bent.  In addition they said the rear shocks need replacement.  They
only do tire installments which gives them more creditability when making
repair recommendations.
The rims on the front and rear are different sizes.  Any suggestions on where
to purchase the front rims?  Also I have been buying my parts from FPC Euro and
they have quite a few choices for rear shocks.  Thoughts on replacement shocks?
Thanks!

I went to Sams Club to verify my tires were there and confirm an installation
appointment for next week.  They said they will check the sensors when they
install the tires.  They have Schrader EZ Go Sensors (Generic-$40each)) that
will fit my car if needed.  They will not install customer provided sensors.
Thanks,Bob

Assuming the tire guys can program the Schrader universal sensors,
here's a metal valve stem for it:
