I suspect that the aluminum seal at the end cap (not the seal between the
unit and the engine) is to blame.
But than it says to replace the complete unit, don't disassemble (~ $100).
Has anyone experiences with this?

Don't know about your chain tensioner, but the one in my 250C (M130)
came apart easily, allowing me to replace both the O-ring against
the block and the one in the screw-on cap as well.  Vast difference
in leakage after that!  That tensioner is all-steel.
