If the primer pump leaks in any position, it should be replaced.   Air leaks 
here will cause you grief at some point in the future.
 
Space is limited to remove the old one, unless you remove the fuel line  
adapters from both the inlet and outlet of the transfer pump.  You can grab  
the 
body of the OLD primer pump with a vice grip or big channel locks, and  unscrew 
it.  The old one will be destroyed in this case, but who  cares!  The new one 
is will have the little rubber dome and is much more  compact, and can be 
installed without removing the fuel lines.
