On a recent flight from Tampa to Flagstaff (PHX then FLG) we got out about 20
minutes over the Gulf and the pilot comes on and says, “We see something up
here we don’t like, so we’re turning around and going back to Tampa.”

I look out my window at the port side engine and the “spinner” is stationary -
not spinning. Hmm. Looks like either lost or had to feather the engine. Meh,
the folks on the flight deck certainly don’t have a death wish, so I’m not
worried.

Made it back no problem, but I really knew something was up because they
appeared to clear the approach as we went straight in, no downwind leg on the
final.

We lived to fly another day. No biggie.
