Had what I thought was the same problem with my '83 300SD. Replaced the transmission last year @ 350k with one from Sun Valley Mercedes Dismantlers. (Best price & warranty). But then the past couple of months it had no acceleration at all. Would barely crawl along @ 40mph. At 1st I suspected a vacuum leak, but took it to a trained MB mech, and he diagnosed it correctly as clogged fuel filters. Changed those, and voile! Now it's back to its usual self. He also replaced the radiator, and now only has to search down the actual vacuum leak that's making the front AC come from the defrost vents. (Gotta have AC here in TX, every day is 95+ or 100).

There is NO vacuum leak that will reduce engine power of an OM617.95 engine! To restore proper AC conditioned air distribution you will need to replace the cracked vacuum actuator and that requires removal of the dash I believe.
