the 94 was a john browning design and would be the lever action we
would generally have the greatest familiarity with. it's a sweet gun,
but you find most of them in 30-30, which is just not that interesting
a cartridge for me.
the gun is of such worth that it was produced up until the factory
closed its doors a few months ago. so many of brownings guns are as
useful today as they day they were first produced. i mean, is there
really a better pistol than the 1911?

the Mod. 94 is the last iteration of the Winchester Level action - the

design continued to be produced until the early 90s although Win modified

somewhat to attract new customers. I have one called Ranger in 30-30
which
is the same as the old Mod. 94 except for lacking the hooded front sight
and
having slightly shorter barrel. Similar mods were released occassional
during the years since 1894. At least that's how I remember it without
having to resort to the history books --
The Winchester factory in Conn. recently closed its doors for good it
appears.
