Good advice. I've been unhappy with my 190D's performance on these single digit days so yesterday I picked up a bottle of Power Service Diesel Supplement. I put in maybe a pint right at the autoparts store. The car had been running okay but started harder than I liked and would quit if I didn't hold the throttle open for 20 seconds or so on startup, it also seemed a little pokey.
Its probably all in my head but I could swear I felt a difference a couple minutes later. My theory is that some of the fuel in the filters had gelled and was holding things up just a little... We'll see, it was a balmy -2F last night, the block heater came on at 4:30am and shut off at 8am, its 10am now... -Curt Message: 17 Date: Fri, 26 Jan 2007 19:48:27 -0500 From: Marshall Booth <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [MBZ] Cold and fuel gelling To: Mercedes Discussion List <mercedes@okiebenz.com> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Even if the fuel you buy is winterized, most commercial fuel in the US is only winterized to about zero (F) temps. Then of course if there's any water in the fuel (water condenses into the fuel from the air in a less than full tank every time the temp drops below the dew point of the air) that will freeze and block fuel flow. Whenever you anticipate that temps will drop below zero if you add a dose (or double dose) of an anti-gel into the fuel and allow it to migrate clear thru the fuel system, you will seldom have ANY trouble. If you do less than that, you WILL have problems. Marshall -- Marshall Booth Ph.D. Ass't Prof. (ret.)
