Hi there folks
What parts of my 300TD wiper assembly are accessible for lubrication?
My new-ish wipers (MB arms and blades) sweep in a silky smooth fashion
when first started, but if left to run continuously or intermittently,
they soon develop a shuddering action. The shuddering is not major but
it's irritating.
The complete assembly (above the grill) was installed new last year and
hasn't been altered, bent or twisted, so I'm assuming that the problem
originates elsewhere in the mechanism. The shuddering persists when both
wipers are lifted off the windscreen.
Any recommendations for lubricant?
I've had the transmission (located under the grill) of an '84 190D wear
out and it shuddered, clacked, clunked, etc. The ONLY thing that
provided relief was replacement with a good used one (that cost less
than $50) that wasn't worn out (the original joints were simply worn out).
Later ('85+) 201 and 124 wiper mechanisms often require lubrication but
I don't think that's very effective with 123/126 mechanisms which seem
similar in construction to the early 201 series mechanisms.
