Car is a 1979 240D

Symptons: A few days ago, went to start, got a "click click sound", panel lights went on for a second then went off when ingnition was put to full right position. I then put to full left, off for a second and tried again and got the normal responce and car started.

Yesterday, same as above happened after car started fine and I had shut it down for fuel. I was again able to start the car based on the above, car had same sysmptoms.

Today went to start her and panel lights went for a second, a click noise and all went out when it was in the ignition all right position. Battery is at 13.08 volts across battery terminals, no signs the alternator is foul. The radio works when ignition is in the #1 radio position and when ignition switch is in the start position I am getting a reading on my fuel gage, just no lights on panel and not even a click from the (soleniond on starter???) car.

Just need some exact paths to take to trouble shoot. Looking at the one line electrical drawing looks like there is a transmission in park switch. I do not see a relay in the starter circuit to go bad. But if it is a bad starter or coil would this cause the panel lights to not work?

Any help would appreciate it as this is my only driver.
