I don't buy lots of cars, but have bought enough of them to realize that (in my experience) when you talk to anyone who sells them for a living you cannot believe one single thing they say. Nothing. I'm sure there is the rare honest dealer out there, but once you've caught one in a lie you can be sure that almost everything else he's told you is also knowingly untrue or just made up. You even have to be careful buying from a "private" seller; many times car dealers will list some of their inventory in local classifieds, with an individual (not dealership) name and phone number.
