the reading came to 6 degrees after 'OT'. I had a hard time figuring out the injection timing. I disconnected the rigid line to the #1 fuel injector and put a drip tube on the rigid fuel line. After tapping the ignition to slowly
rotate the crankshaft I hardly got any fuel to come out and I tried at
different crankshaft positions but could not determine when fuel began to
come. Am I doing this method correctly?

No, not at all! It is almost beyond belief that you would have
had a sudden timing change that didn't either stop or ruin the
engine. I would look elsewhere, starting with fuel quality.
"What have you done to me lately" is a very good operating
principle. My wife, for example, had filled up the car 4
miles before she called me stating that it was noisy, weak,
smoky, and wouldn't idle. Gasoline will do that.
