I have a Linksys AP/Router and a Linksys PCMCIA card on one laptop, and Compaq/HP/Intel WiFi adapters in the other laptops - all work and play well together - not problems at all. I take that back - the latest Compaq/HP laptop came with Vista, and won't connect to the AP when the SSID in not broadcast. Otherwise - everything works great.
