Recoil is related to how heavy the gun is.
I've shot a 10ga once or twice with no ill effects. That was on the trap range
though and trap loads are ususally low power and lower recoil.
Trap guns also tend to be heavy and thus have less recoil.
I tried firing both barrels on a 12ga side by side once, damn near put me on my
butt.

knutson has an old spanish double barrel 10 gauge. he figured it would
be
interesting to find out what it would be like to fire both shells at
the
same time. he describes the bruising as considerable.
