Dwight, thanks for the come back. No oil in coolant, not coolant in oil. Was showing no signs of over heating or no signs of creeping up temp the last few 1000 or more miles. Car was running great. I have not run it except idle until hot. since this happened but when I do I get white smoke and a rough idle indicative of water in fuel. I have purchased a block tester. I believe it was failure of the water pump as hoses are new, radiator is clean and not leaks or level fluid drop off. Water pump was replaced less than 6,000 miles ago which for me is two months of travel.
We were coming home from a baseball game, was just two miles down the road, I looked down and it was red lining. creeped home the 8 miles by driving until it got to hot shutting down and waiting for it to cool. Then going again and stopping. I need to solve the over heating problem. I am afraid I blew the head gasket or cracked the head. I was hoping someone knew how to check to see if water pump is pumping while car is idling. I hear no strange noises and it looks like the pump pulley is turning fine.
