Tell them they are dreaming, those jobs are pretty easy DIY except for rebuilding the alternator. Pull the alternator and take it to a reputable auto sparky for an overhaul, the alternators are nothing out of the ordinary. The thermostat could be about right if the cover needs replacing (MB no longer make the plastic thermostat cover and the metal ones are pricey but a good S/H one should do the job). Anyway ask Rusty what the going rate is for those parts.
