On my '81 SD I replaced the door lock actuators a few months ago. The German
ones that came out were easy to remove, but the Swiss replacements were a bear
to get on. I had to create a tool out of a sharpened curved paperclip to
release the rod.

I have also noticed that the oblong ones, as used in
single-line systems, often fail at that exposed boot
and not inside. But the older round ones are prone
to the internal diaphragms failing.
