Update on my 240D cold weather behavior (not starting). Hurst (and probably some more) nailed it on the head. One bad glow plug, the one at the rear of the engine. Everything should be okay now. ... Difficult to tell for sure, because the car was on the block heater overnight. Why? Much nicer installing glow plug(s) on a warm engine block when the garage is unheated.
