Make sure the belt rollers, guides &, tensioners are working properly. Make 
sure the roller is perpendicular to the engine and not canted - if it's 
cocked it is on the way out - quickly .  The parts are cheap though and easy 
to fix.
The elctrical problem is probably due to the battery being low - the belt is 
probaboy ot driving the PS or alt.
It should be obvious in the light -
