OK, so for my receiver I have a Kenwood that has 2 optical inputs for surround sound. The receiver of course switches automatically to whatever mode is received (2.0, 5.1, or whatever). I have the HDDVD player hooked to one port, and the sat box hooked to the other. I just discovered we have a playstation 3 which plays blue ray disks. It also has optical out. My new TV also has optical out and I figured with the various devices hooked to the tv with a HDMI cable, I could just hook the optical from the TV to the receiver and only need to use one port on the receiver. Well, it will get the sound that way but will not switch into 5.1 etc mode like it should. Hook it back directly to the device(not thru tv) and it goes into proper mode. Anybody know what the deal is with that?
As an alternate note, I probably need to get a new receiver anyway as I guess the optical digital is now outdated and will not fully send the full surround that the HDDVD's and blue ray has. I have seen something about True HD surround on some of the HD disks and have heard of 7.1 surround being mentioned. Whats 7.1? More speakers? Trying to play home theater catchup here. Anybody recommend a good receiver that is cheap? _______________________________________ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com
