I was chatting with a taxi driver a few years back when most were using Chev Caprice models. They would usually have either a 305 or a 350. I asked how many miles they typically get out of a car, and he said they tend to drive them to about 750,000 kms, with very little if any work, other than just routines service, and lots of brake and tire changes. I just love my old merc and 911's, but I don't think they've ever built a better engine than the small block chev V8. It's simple, light, gobs of torque and power, and they last forever. I still miss fiddling with my old 350, not that it every needed much of anything.
