Find out what's wrong -- if the starter is locked up, jumpering it won't help!
You short between the small wire and battery connection on the solenoid. Not too bad on a NA 61x, but hard to reach on the turbo models and impossible on a 60x. the starter it buried. You can "jump" it at the wire terminals over on the passenger side on a W123, but I've never done it. You have a tow hook on the rear somewhere on the W124.
