I had a very similar problem with my 126 when I first purchased it, I was all set to replace the starter. I was able to start the car when hot by rapping the solenoid, so I'm sure there were issues there, however changing the battery resolved (overcame) the issue, at least, a fully charged fresh battery is able to overcome the weakness/wear of the starter. Lots easier to replace as well!
