Measure the protrusion of the piston above the block when you have the
head off. If any oil leaked into the #1 cylinder, it can cause a
hydrolock which will bend the connecting rod. Careful of whiplash when
you turn the crank by hand. The spring on the vacuum pump causes the
chain to lurch forward. You probably want to remove it anyway to
inspect the injection pump timer for wear.
