Thanks Jim BillR
<<<Bill, Probably a corroded connection. Start by unplugging the connector at the driver's side of the cylinder head, and watch the gauge. There are two senders in the 2-3 cylinder area of the head i believe. Push the connector on and off a few times and see if the temperature reading becomes more accurate. A little known connection on the back of the glow plug relay is next. The wiring harness for the temperature sender is the same one that contains the wiring for the glow plugs. So the glow plug relay becomes a connection point for your sender. Same drill--unplug it and replug it a few times to remove the tarnish on the contacts that Mercedes silver is famous for. Do not sand the contacts! If these two points have not fixed the problem, NOW you can pay someone to remove the instrument cluster, which also has a circular push on connector on the back. I bet it is the one on the GP relay, since you recently changed the sensor. You changed the correct sensor--right?
