The best car cover I ever owned (after buying several $30 & $40 covers from Walmart) was one I bought at the Porsche dealer for my 911. It cost ~$150 although I go it on sale for ~$125 - that was ~10 years ago and they're over $200 now.
MB Dealers sell excellent car covers that will keep the water off while still breathing. Also, http://www.calcarcover.com/cover_find.aspx has a excellent selection. The material you need to look for is made by Kimberly-Clarke and the latest name it goes by is "Noah" - unfortunately when it comes to car covers (like many other things) you get what you pay for. Also, you can choose different covers for diffferent purposes - indoor, outdoor, soft so paint cannot be scratched, breathable, waterproof, dustcover, etc. Start at the Ca Car Cover Co and you'll see what's available.
