Talked to a friend who used to be a mechanic before he went off to run a restaurant and then go into construction in his semi-retirement. He says run the nut down until I just start to feel it is making contact and then tighten it just a little bit more. Don't want to put too much preload on the bearings for fear of making them overheat and cause more trouble.
