If you can figure out a way to propagate carries while in the transform
domain, then you're home free (there are FFTs base on number theory that
have no rounding errors). I've thought about this for a while, but
have no idea where to start (carry propagation is a nonlinear operation,
so it's difficult to apply FFT techniques to it).
