Yeah, but most virus checkers have a scheduler, whereby it kicks in when the system is "quiet", and scans your hard disk for viruses, innoculates new files etc. If the slowdown is sporadic, and rectifies itself after 5 or 10 minutes, I'd guess this is the case.

ALOGSERV is part of McAfee Anti-Virus.  It burns virtually zero
time on my PC.
