I am using mprime 22.12 on a pentium 166 MMX to do trial factoring. For the
exponents currently being assigned from primenet it takes this machine about
12 minutes to factor from 2^57 to 2^58.

I thought I would try factoring some small exponents (under 1,000,000) from
the nofactors.zip file. I put FactorOverride=64 into prime.ini and started
mprime as usual but progress is _much_ slower, it will take about 8 hours to
factor from 2^57 to 2^58.
Others have given great explanations, but I would like to suggest that if you want to work in ranges outside of PrimeNet that you "stake your claim" with the Lone Mersenne Hunters so as to avoid duplicating work of others who may also be working in the same area (and I know there is at least one person working in that region). The LMH have communicated via a Yahoo groups email list in the past, but may be moving to the GIMPS BBS (www.teamprimerib.com/gimps) for future communications.
