You could - so long as whatever stack you were editing wasn't in the
standalone file.

The standalone is the mainStack.  An article on using stackfiles is on our
web site.

Yes.  Though be sure you don't get confused about the message path: messages
will always go through the mainStack passed to the standalone, but will only
go through the other mainStacks if called from inside that mainStack or a
subStack of that mainStack (messages don't travel through all open
mainStacks).

Hope this info. helps: this stuff is all a little difficult to get to grips
with at first, but if you try it out and get used to it it should make more
sense!
