One thing in the game seemed beyond the reach of MetaCard: when you
lose, all the jewels shake, and then fall down out of the window.
This is 64 images moving simultaneously, smoothly accelerating as if
falling. I wouldn't have thought MetaCard was up to this, but I
thought I'd give it a try. (this is all on a PowerBook G3)

First, MetaCard surprised me by being able to move 50 32x32 images
reasonably well. It's not as smooth as JewelToy, but much better than
I expected. I'm using images with the fileName property set to a gif.
Has anyone tested to see if there's a better option?

As far as I know, the acceleration aspect is a real bear within
MetaCard. Changing the moveSpeed while objects are moving seems to
have no effect, so I would think the answer is a series of move
commands for each object. I haven't tested this to see how smooth it
would be.

I noticed a significant hiccup in the movement of the images,
occurring about once every second. I noticed that it didn't happen if
the mouse was moving, so on a hunch I disabled processor cycling in
the energy saver control panel and it went away.

So the result so far is that it doesn't look like the animation could
be done as well and as smoothly in MetaCard, but it would be possible
to come a lot closer than I would have guessed before I started.

Regards,

Geoff
