Norman Megill & I plan to make available a physical printed version of the updated "Metamath book".
An old version is already available (via Lulu), but it's rather obsolete. We now have a significantly updated version of the Metamath book. We think some people would prefer to be able to get a printed copy of the updated version, so we're trying to make it possible to get. IMPORTANT: The PDF and .tex files will CONTINUE to be freely available, and the .tex file will continue to be CC0. The physical book publication won't be a money-making activity (we may ask for a small royalty, but there's a very good chance the "royalty" will not be enough to cover initial costs). The physical copy will simply be a convenience for those who want a physical copy (say, to take to the beach!). I have a few questions, for those who might want to get the physical printed version: * Would hardback or paperback be preferred? Paperback is a little cheaper, but hardback is more resilient. I don't know the prices yet, but the current version in paperback is $11.25, and I'm guessing a hardback would be around $23-ish (US dollars). My guess is that hardback would be better, since if you want to minimize costs, you can always print the PDF yourself. There's also the thought that a hardbound might be taken "more seriously". But maybe everyone wants a paperback! * What size is desired? The previous physical book was 9"x6", so that's the "easy" size to choose again. We could print on US letter (8.5"X11", or slightly smaller if hardcover). We plan to use Lulu, a self-publishing US service, and they don't support European paper sizes :-). No guarantee that we can make everyone happy, of course. That said, I want to hear who'd be interested in the physical copy of the book & what their preferences would be. If you aren't interested then just carry on. Thanks! --- David A. Wheeler -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Metamath" group.
