After a bit more research I have found a way of doing this without a
radio! This is an online version of what I described, - it is a realtime
audio stream of a meteor radar Courtesy of Nasa. http://science.nasa.gov/audio/meteor/forward-scat2.m3u
(Or see http://www.spaceweather.com/glossary/nasameteorradar.html
for full details) I have also discovered a neat program that uses the soundcard to analyse the Pings produced by a radio at http://sapp.telepac.pt/coaa/r_meteor.htm
Although the ‘download link’ doesn’t always work It did
eventually!, but if anyone wants the trial version and the link doesn’t
work, I can email it to them (contact me off list). If you start the realtime audio running on
your computer from the link at the top, then run the software at the same time,
it will actually analyse the realtime
data since it is playing from your sound card. Now you can hear what meteors sound like! Cheers, Mark F. |
