Fred,

Thank you for confirming my thoughts.

I applied for a new key for the server code generated when the NLM had
been installed and without the HLO option installed. When this was
applied the system worked without a problem.

Simply put...

The Hardware Lock (HLO) is not compatible with the Network Licence
Manager (NLM)

Do not apply the patch LMV3.dll to a server running NLM

Ensure you have the correct server code (the one without HLO/patch
option installed)

SmartCam NLM Server will work on a Windows 2000 server with 95/98
clients (I don't know about NT or 2000 clients as we don't have any)

Nigel

While I am not familiar with the problem you described, we do however
successfully use the NLM and can perhaps shed some light on the subject.
We
currently use the NLM on NT workstations with a dedicated NT server
running
the NLM license server.

While I am somewhat familiar with the HLO, but have never personally
used
it. I do know that the two are not compatible.

When using the NLM, only the server code on the machine that is
designated
as the license server is utilized. The server codes of the separate
workstations are irrelevant.

When using the NLM client on a local workstation, the file "lmv3.dll" is
different than the file of the same name using a local license. I do not
know if this is also true when using the HLO.

Both the NLM and the HLO require the presence of the Elan network
license
manager flag file "netelm.flg" in the SmartCAM license key directory.
Contents of the Elan License Manager flag file are as follows:

This file is needed to keep future installs from over-writing
the network license system. DO NOT remove.

The path to the SmartCAM license key directory is identified in two
places,
the "SmartCAM.ini" file and the "Win.ini" file.

Example from the SmartCAM.ini file:

[ElanLM]
Keydirectory=C:\SM9CFG\KEYDIR

Example from the Win.ini file:

[ElanLM]
Keydirectory=C:\SM9CFG\KEYDIR

On the workstations you need to make sure the environment variable
CMTHOST
is correctly set for the name of the server preceded by the @ symbol.
This
is done by default in the autoexec.bat file during installation of the
NLM.
This was done mainly for Windows 95 (and 98) support. I prefer to do
this in
the system properties dialog box on NT systems. This capability is also
available for Windows 2000.

Currently we don't have any SmartCAM installations running under Windows
2000.

I hope this helps.

Dave,
I've just tried installing NLM on a Win98 machine and got similar
results (It wouldn't work) but I have an idea and if anybody could
confirm this I would be grateful.

Synopsis
SmartCam NLM will not work with the "Hardware Lock Option" installed,

If the hardware lock option (with LMV3.dll update) is installed the
generated server code and corresponding key from SDRC will only allow
that PC ONLY to use SmartCam. It over-rides NLM, hence the NLM reports
"Authorization error only valid for ." (ie this machine).

What makes this worse is that the server code changes when the "Hardware
lock option" is installed, even if the lock device is not attached to
the printer port. (I thought it should revert back to the previous
server code as the lock could not be found)

When I installed NLM with the Hardware Lock installed & attached the
server code was what I was expecting. I typed in the key and it accepted
it but it would not work with NLM. When I removed the Hardware Lock from
the printer port (but not the software) I got a different server code,
as you would expect. This server code I sent to SDRC and got a key back.
Typed the new key in and it accepted it but NLM would still not work
"Authorization failure". When I deleted & reinstalled NLM (to remove the
hardware lock software) I got a different server code that my new key
will not work with. But if I install the Hardware Lock option and
LMV3.dll update the server code changes back to the one I just sent SRDC
& received a key for. (Note Hardware lock is not attached to the printer
port)

My thoughts are :
A server code generated after installing NLM & the Hardware Lock
software is not compatible with SmartCam NLM.

Can anybody please confirm this before I ask SDRC for another licence
key for a different server code but the same server.

Nigel,

Does the NLM use a dongle. If so, I would try it temporarily on another
non-Windows 2000 PC.
I've all sorts of problems with running Smartcam on Windows 2000 as well
-
especially FFM.

Subject: [mfg-smartcam] Network Licence Keys

To All,

I am trying to use Smartcam Network Licence Manager (NLM) from a Windows
2000 server.
All the stations can communicate with the server using the "Licence
Server Test Tool"
but they can not run SmartCam, the following error is reported by
Smartcam,

ERROR 511:There is a network or system licence error.

(I do have a valid permanent licence key from SDRC applied to the
server)

If I look on the server log logfile.txt I see the following information:

01-Aug-15 16:08:36: 30: Authorization failure; key C:\Documents and
Settings\Administrator\KEYDIR\30.lic only valid for: .

Anybody know what this means?
How can a licence be valid for a DOT?
