... I have a question for you in reference to the
tapping parameters you provided....... If you had a prototype housing with 100+
hrs in programming/setups/machining would you run the same numbers?
Would you use the roll form? I used to run production and wouldnt hesitate
to tap at recommended SFM's but now find that on very small Qty's with no
overuns my sphincter tends to palpitate at just the sight of a tap turning a
grand or more. Just curious..............rm

Cut taps up to 7/8"-14 we run
110 - 140 sfm in aluminum.
Larger rollform taps we
run 100 - 120 sfm and the smaller rollform
taps
around 75 - 90
sfm.
We also use rollform taps in cast
durabar at around 40 - 50 sfm with no problem.
Anything above 7/8"-14 we thread
mill with Schmarjie 1/2" dia. x 4-flute solid carbide
at 1200 sfm and 60
ipm.
