You can put it anywhere that's handy. I leave mine on the desktop.
Yes, make a separate one for you EDM app.

Do I just leave the file on my  desktop? I also run Wire EDM SC, should I make a separate batch file for  that?

Thank you, for you help so far.

If it is caused by CTFMON,  then this is what I use on my system (WinXP Pro, Office XP Pro) to stop it  from happening.

Right click your  desktop and select new text document
Paste this into the newly created text file.

taskkill.exe /im ctfmon*
cd c:\sm11\system
start /b c:\sm11\system\amill.exe

If your SC file is somewhere other than "C:\Sm11", then edit it  accordingly. Substitute "amill.exe" for whatever SC app. you want to  launch.
Close and save the  file.
Right click the new text file  and rename it to somefilename.bat. I call mine Amill.bat because it opens  AMill.

It seems to be random. Some times SC will run for   only a few minutes other times 1/2 an hour and has happened doing  different  tasks including keep defaults.

From what I've read here, it's   not Windows XP specific, but rather Office 2000/XP specific. The most  common  action that causes it to happen is when you use "Keep Defaults"  inside SC.

Can you tell if it always  happens  when you're performing the same task in SC?

I'm trying to get my new computer   loaded with  Smartcam Advanced production milling and Wire  EDM.

I have the permanent  lock installed. It   starts and works for a little while then freezes up.  Is this the  same problem  others have had when using XP?

I have read the  previous posts  regarding the  kill ctfmon batch file. Is this  what I need to do?
How is the batch file  created? In Notepad? How is it  saved?

Once I  have  created it do I just drag it and  put it some where like a root   directly?

Could some  one give specific instructions for  this  process if it is what I need to  do?

Thank you   all.
