*October 17th, 2010* Srinagar, Oct 15 : More than 530 ill people, including women and children, from far-flung and remote areas were treated and provided free medicine in a medical camp organised by the Rashtriya Rifles (RR) in north Kashmir.
The camp, organised under ''Operation Sadhbhavana'' was held in Government Boys Middle School, Duniwari, Lolab, a remote village in the frontier district of Kupwara, which was once a hub of militants. A defence ministry spokesman said the main aim of holding the camp was to provide much needed medical assistance and care in the remote areas in north Kashmir. He said during the day-long camp held yesterday, a total of 534 people were treated which include 203 women and children. The specialist doctors, including lady doctors from both Army and civil administrations were present to render their services to the needy. Lectures on various health related topics like AIDS awareness, family planning, immunisation, mental health, hygiene and sanitation were delivered by experts, doctors and various NGOs A function to honour the 'Veer Naris' and 'Widows of Ex-Servicemen' was also held at Kupwara. Spokesman said the function was held with the aim of reaching out to the Veer Nari's and widows of Ex-Servicemen in remote and far-flung areas of the district, in order to provide assistance and spread awareness about their entitlements and rights. Agro products, handloom items, postal department, Medical and Veterinary stalls were established at the venue of the meeting for the benefit of these courageous women.
