*Bangalore*: In a tragic incident, three of a family committed suicide late
on Thursday after the elder daughter eloped with her boyfriend.

The deaths were reported at Vinoba Nagar, near Sarayi-palya, in Hennur
police station limits.

The Hennur police named the victims as Yelumalai (45), his wife Muniyamma
(35) and their daughter Rekha (17).

While Yelumalai hanged himself from the ceiling fan in the hall, his wife
and daughter, who consumed poison, were found dead in the bedroom.

A suicide note, written in Tamil by Yelumalai, said they had been humiliated
owing to “some family problems”, the police said.

Yelumalai's brother-in-law Balakrishna reportedly told the police the family
was upset after Yelumalai's daughter Jyothi Lakshmi eloped with her
boyfriend two months ago.

The parents were daily wage labourers hailing from Salem in Tamil Nadu.

Their bodies were discovered by a neighbour who came to investigate why the
main door remained half-open, the police said.
