*12 March 2011* *Hyderabad *: Mentally handicapped children were distributed scholarships at a programme organised by a charitable Trust in the city on Saturday.
The scholarships were distributed to the mentally handicapped children of PAWMENCAP (Parents Association for the Welfare of Mentally Handicapped Persons) to further boost their interests in the vocational training being imparted to them. Speaking on the occasion, Foundation for Economic and Educational Development Trust Chairman Ghiasuddin Babukhan commended the service being rendered by PAWMENCAP for the mentally handicapped persons during the past decade. "The vocational training being given to the inmates would enhance the opportunities of recognising the abilities of the mentally handicapped," Mr Babukhan stated. Earlier, PAWMENCAP Executive Secretary Mohammed Mushtaq Ali welcomed the guests and informed that the organisation could survive with the support of philanthropists even though the government has stopped its assistance for the past 3 years. Trustees of Foundation for Economic and Educational Development Trust distributed scholarship cheques to 72 children amounting to about Rs 2lakh. Mr Ghiasuddin Babukhan announced a donation of Rs.1 lakh from his personal funds in addition to cash gifts to all the 27 teachers working in PAWMENCAP.
