*16 August 2011* *NEW DELHI *: The Delhi high court has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to raise the height of the boundary wall of the Nirmal Chhaya complex, housing a shelter home for mentally ill and destitute women, for the safety of the inmates.A bench of Justices A K Sikri and Siddharth Mridul has directed the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board of MCD, which maintains all shelter homes in the city, to raise the height from three to six feet within four weeks. The bench made it clear that the board would bear all the expenses. HC also directed proper electrification of the area.The court was hearing an application filed by Sudinalaya, an NGO which works for the mentally ill and destitute women rescued from the streets.The NGO submitted that a shelter home for women recently constructed on the premises of Nirmal Chhaya, the government-run home for destitute women, faces a security threat because intruders can easily cross the three-foot boundary wall. Earlier, the court had directed the city police to set up a picket near the shelter for the safety of the residents.
