*PUNE* : The Pune chapter of Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI) is set to open on September 21, World Alzheimer’s Day, thanks to the efforts of Chaitanya Mental Health Care Centre (CMHCC) and International Longevity Centre. Rony George, secretary general of the Pune chapter of ARDSI and head of CMHCC, said veteran family physician Dr HV Sardesai would inaugurate the chapter. “This year, the theme for the day is ‘Faces of dementia’ and will be observed as a tribute to those who are working endlessly to promote increased support and care for people with dementia and their care givers,” he said. The inauguration programme will be held at Balshikshan Mandir, Mayur Colony, Kothrud, and will be followed by a screening of a short film on dementia. George added, “We are a non-profit voluntary organisation that aims at working for the care, support, training and research of dementia. The Pune chapter has been initiated in a view to develop, coordinate and render services in the field of dementia care, support, training and research, especially in the western region of India. ARDSI Pune Chapter will be functioning under the aegis of Chaitanya Mental Health Care Centre and International Longevity Centre, India.” The ARDSI Pune chapter is affiliated to its national office, the first Afro-Asian organisation to receive full membership with Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI), UK, and Federation of National Alzheimer’s Associations.
