*JAIPUR *: Early on Sunday morning, a constable shot himself dead in the
treasury room of the collectorate in Hanumangarh where he was working as a
guard. Police said the constable, who was suffering from mental illness,
used his rifle to commit suicide.

According to the police, the deceased Nagendra Singh, was living in the
guard room of treasury office while his family was at Narad village of the
district.

"He was on night duty on Saturday. Around 4 am on Sunday, he shot himself on
the forehead using his rifle. The other guard had gone for a walk when he
took the extreme step," said a police officer.

When his colleague returned, he found the doors of the treasury office
locked from inside. "Even after repeated knocks when Nagendra did not
respond, he went to the rear and peeked into the room through a window. He
found Nagendra sitting on a chair and his forehead bleeding due to the
gunshot," said the officer.

"During preliminary investigation, it has come up that he was not going
through any financial, professional or family problems. The family members
have told us that he was suffering from mental illness and had gone on six
months' leave recently to get treatment," said the officer.
