*PEACE OF MIND : Actor ‘Ganja' Karuppu at Shanthivanam, a home for mentally
ill.*

Setting an example worthy of emulation, actor ‘Ganja' Karuppu has adopted
five inmates of Shanthivanam, a home for the mentally ill.

The actor has offered to sponsor their entire expenses at the home.
“Mentally ill persons need extra care since they cannot express their
problems,” observed ‘Ganja' Karuppu, who along with his doctor wife
Sangeetha visited the home recently. “I pray to God that all the mentally
ill persons at the home get well soon.”

*Impressive storyline*

The actor is here for the shoot of ‘Mannar Valaikuda' in which he plays the
lead role. In a chat about his career, ‘Ganja' Karuppu said the script
prompted his acceptance of the role. “I did get a lot of opportunities to
play lead roles after ‘Arai En 305il Kadavul,' but declined the offers.
‘Mannar Valaikuda,' had an impressive storyline that provided lot of scope
for performance.”

However, the actor has no intention, at least for now, to continue with
hero roles. “Right now, I am busy doing comedy roles in quite a few movies.
If a good storyline with suitable character comes my way I may consider
acting in the lead,” he says.

‘Ganja' Karuppu says that he is a director's actor adding that he owes a
lot to filmmakers Bala and Ameer. “A character is the director's brainchild
and my job is to give life to it. I just do what the director expects from
me and I am pleased that my efforts have been well received by the fans.”

With more than 150 films over a decade to his credit, does he wish to try
his hand in other aspects of filmmaking? “I already have quite a lot on my
plate now,” he smiles.
