*MALLAPURAM : *A mental health seminar held at Poonkudil Mana at
Vallikkpatta, near Manjeri, demanded that social reasons for increasing
atrocities on women should be subjected to serious studies.

Inaugurating the seminar, Wayanad District Judge D. Ajit Kumar said the
social reasons for atrocities on women were often not examined.

N.P. Hafiz Mohammed, sociologist and psychological counsellor, was the
moderator at the seminar.

Mr. Mohammed said exploitation of women was much more in Kerala than in
other States. Television serials were to a great extent responsible for the
exploitation, he said.

K. Samita Varma, teacher at Zamorin's Guruvayurappan College, Kozhikode,
and V.M. Deepa, journalist, spoke.
