*15-Feb-2012* *BANGALORE*: Chairperson of Infosys Foundation Sudha Murty has lamented that soothing words are missing from nurses of late.
Speaking at the Institute Day of National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS), she said, “It is the kind word that matters a lot for the patients. May be it is an old school of thought, but that is missing today. Nursing staff nowadays spend more time with the patients than the doctors. So they should be compassionate irrespective of the fact whether the patient is rich or poor.” Stressing on the importance of why the Infosys Foundation Dharmashala was planned, she said, “Along with the patients, their kith and kin also matter. So we need to provide them space near hospitals to facilitate the patient’s care.” “Philanthropy is an essential service and God gives us money so as to help others. It is the duty of every person to help,” she added. Mukund Memorial Prize and Infosys Foundation Award for excellence was awarded to students who secured highest marks in Diploma in Neuroscience and Psychiatric/Mental Health on the occasion.
