CHENNAI: A 23-year-old
woman

 threw her two and a-half-year-old
daughter

 into a
well

near her house in Aminjikarai before jumping in on Tuesday.

Kanaka allegedly took the extreme step as she was unable to provide proper
treatment for her disabled daughter Dakshini, police said.

When Kanaka's husband Arumugam, a tailor, returned home from work he found
his wife and daughter missing and their son Gokul (4) sleeping in the
bedroom.

Arumugam saw the back door open, went out and noticed the fencing around
the well in the backyard displaced.

He saw his daughter's body floating on the surface and informed police.
Fire and rescue service personnel rushed there and pulled out the child's
body as well as that of Kanaka.

Police said Arumugam was the sole bread-winner and the family was
struggling to make ends meet. Dakshini was being treated at the Institute
of Child Health in Egmore where doctors had planned a surgery for her.
