5-July-2012 YAVATMAL : A 55-year-old woman tied her mentally-challenged granddaughter to her waist and jumped into a farm well in Sawargad village, 15km from the city. Both Khatijabi Sheikh Hakim (55) and seven-year-old Sania Sheikh Shakeel drowned.
Khatijabi, a resident of Surana Layout, left her house in the morning with Sania on the pretext of visiting a durgah on Ghataji Road near Sawargad. However, as she did not turn up until evening, the panic-stricken family members started a search in the entire city and the peripheral villages. Later they lodged a missing persons complaint with the rural police. A resident of Sawargad village noticed the bodies floating in the well in the farm of Vithal Kasarkar.
