PUNE : Three persons who allegedly raped a 30-year-old mentally unstable woman
were arrested by the Bhosari police on Saturday. The arrests were made after
the woman identified one of the suspects during a trap laid at the Pune railway
station based on the statement given by her. The police team was armed with a
sketch prepared by an artist according to the description provided by the
victim.
The probe revealed that the woman, who had left her home on April 30 after a
quarrel with her family, was gangraped in a lodge in Lonavala and also in Pune.
A complaint was registered on May 5, three days after she returned home.
The three suspects have been identified as Vijaypal Singh (22) of Khandala and
Bilavar Hafiz Shaikh (24) and Yasin Shakir Khan (35) of Lonavala. While Singh
is from Rajasthan, the others are from UP. Police said Singh worked as a
security guard at the Lonavala bungalow of an actress. Police said one more
suspect was yet to be arrested.
Senior inspector Chandrakant Bhosale of Bhosari police station said: "After
leaving home, the woman had gone to Pune railway station."
At the station, police said, she met Singh who told her he would help her go to
Mumbai. "He then took her to a lodge in Lonavala and also called three others.
They raped her at the lodge and later took her to another place in Pune and
raped her there too. Singh then left her at the Pune railway station from where
she went back home," said an officer.
DCP Rajendra Mane said: "After the complaint was lodged, the victim was sent
for medical care and was kept under the observation of psychiatrists. As the
arrest of the suspects was a priority, we tried to get as much information from
her with the help of the doctors. Our artist made a sketch of one of the
suspects based on her description."
