Ok so like a NOOB I ran out of space in root ( aka "/" ) used up all the space in /home and needed to keep all my long running applications running. There have been a couple of talks toting the virtues of LVM I switched to it the last time I installed my system ( almost 2 years ago ).
So on my running production Ubuntu system I ran: # sudo lvextend -L+10G /dev/ubuntu/root # sudo resize2fs /dev/ubuntu/root and without missing a heartbeat my root file system grew 10Gb All programs and services running from root kept on running no issues. I'd like to see Vista do that! The moral of the story fokes... Go to every meeting or else you may miss something that one day will save your BACON!!! shameless plug for todays meeting follows ======================================== November 2007 meeting: Django - Python Web Application Development Framework. Django is a high-level Python Web framework that encourages rapid development and clean, pragmatic design. Developed and used over two years by a fast-moving online-news operation, Django was designed to handle two challenges: the intensive deadlines of a newsroom and the stringent requirements of the experienced Web developers who wrote it. It lets you build high-performing, elegant Web applications quickly. Sean O'Connor will be speaking on the subject of Django. The meeting will take place at the Mid Hudson Library System Auditorium, in Poughkeepsie, NY, on Wednesday, November 7, from 6pm - 8pm. A nice map to the Auditorium can be found here: http://midhudson.org/help/mhls_building_map.htm. All meetings are *free* and open to the public, and everyone from all levels of expertise and interest in Linux and Open Source Software are encouraged to attend (and bring a friend or two)! In addition, after each meeting ends everyone is welcome to join in on an informal dinner gathering at the Palace Diner (http://www.thepalacediner.com/) on Washington St. This is a great opportunity to interact with members of the local Linux community, and a forum where questions and comments are strongly welcomed.
